Getting Started

Install the app
Install Smart Breadcrumbs from the Shopify App Store. The app automatically provisions your shop settings and starts your 7-day free trial — no credit card required.

Add the breadcrumb block to your theme
Go to Online Store → Themes → Customize. Navigate to a Product or Collection template, click "Add block", and select "Smart Breadcrumbs". Repeat for each template type you want breadcrumbs on. Save when done.

Customize the style
Open the Style Settings page in the app to change separator character, colors, font size, and spacing. Changes apply to your storefront in real time after saving.

Verify on your storefront
Visit a product page on your live store (or the theme preview). You should see a breadcrumb trail at the top of the product section. On Pro, collection paths will automatically resolve to the most-relevant ancestor collection.

FAQ
How do I add breadcrumbs to my theme?
Open the Theme Editor (Online Store → Themes → Customize), navigate to a Product or Collection template, click "Add block", and select "Smart Breadcrumbs". Save and you're done.
Why aren't breadcrumbs showing on my storefront?
Make sure you've added the Breadcrumb block in the Theme Editor for each template (product, collection, page). Also verify your app is on an active plan.
What's the difference between Basic and Pro?
Basic covers breadcrumbs on all templates with full style customization. Pro adds smart multi-collection path detection and collection-aware SEO trails — ideal for stores with complex category structures.
Can I cancel my plan anytime?
Yes. All plans are month-to-month through Shopify Billing. Cancel from Shopify admin under Settings → Billing. Your plan stays active until the end of the billing cycle.
Will breadcrumbs affect my site speed?
No. The Liquid block renders server-side with zero JavaScript and adds less than 1 KB to your page weight.
Does it support JSON-LD for SEO?
Yes. Every breadcrumb trail automatically outputs schema.org BreadcrumbList JSON-LD, which Google uses for rich snippet breadcrumbs in search results.
Does the app work with headless / custom storefronts?
The theme app extension targets Online Store 2.0 themes. For headless storefronts, the breadcrumb logic would need to be implemented using the Storefront API — contact support for guidance.
